This extension was designed to increase the capacity of the existing complex and to provide new access roads to the facility.
The addition featured:
- 30 new single occupant bedrooms complete with ensuites
- Staff rooms
- Training rooms
- A centralised servery
- Dining rooms
Nurse call systems and Duress alarms were fitted and interconnected with the existing buildings.
This project was completed on reclaimed land, which had to be reconstituted to allow construction to proceed.

A temporary road was used during the building works so as to maintain access to the existing facility.
The building structure is timber frame and truss on concrete slabs with brick to the exterior and a tiled roof.
The building’s interior is predominately plasterboard walls and ceilings, with all trims and handrails fitted with polished Tasmanian Oak mouldings.
The floor coverings are decorative vinyl and carpet.
A new road was provided to the complex, which includes an area designated for long term parking. The building exterior and internal courtyards are complemented with extensive landscaping and paving.
Bennett Constructions received recognition for this project being the Winner of the 2009 Master Builders Association of NSW Regional Building Awards – Northern Regions – Best Health Building over $5m.
