After two years of restoration following devastating floods, the Lismore Regional Gallery is set to reopen with a vibrant program of events. The official reopening took place on Friday, 27 September, , marking a new chapter for one of Lismore’s cultural landmarks.
Originally established in 1953, Lismore Regional Gallery is among the longest-running regional galleries in New South Wales. Its most recent transformation was made possible in 2015 through funding from the Federal Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund and a generous $500,000 donation from the Margaret Olley Arts Trust. These contributions enabled the redevelopment of the old Lismore High School site into a $5.8 million contemporary cultural hub, now known as the Lismore Quadrangle, which includes the Gallery, the Northern Rivers Conservatorium, and the Lismore Library.
The Bennett team had the privilege of walking through the beautifully restored gallery ahead of its reopening.
Lismore Mayor Steve Krieg expressed that the gallery’s reopening is a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing recovery, offering hope and inspiration to the community.
